ABOUT THE COVEN OF THE WOLVES:

The Coven of the Wolves is a coven of the RavenMyst Circle, Inc. We were founded Yule of 2005 by Lady Magpie Two Shadows in Maricopa County, Arizona. Like our patron totem the wolf, our coven focus is centered on the concept of family unity and child-rearing. The wolf is seen in some traditions as symbolizing a mentor or teacher; in our coven, much of the activities and rituals we engage in are designed to provide a living, breathing, and meaningful spiritual experience for our children that teaches them about themselves and our shared spiritual paths. We devote special attention and energy to designing and teaching comprehensive “Sunday School” classes that make our religion accessible and understandable for the children of our coven, and we are looking into expanding our classes to include the children of our local Pagan community.

Like all RavenMyst covens, we offer a core curriculum of common RavenMyst Circle lessons for our adult coven members. We also supplement our core curriculum with additional lessons that we feel will be of value to our coveners. In our coven, we stress the importance of one-on-one training between coven members and their mentors. Because we believe that our knowledge is increased when we are asked to teach, our second and third degree coveners are asked to serve as mentors for the dedicants and first degree coveners as they gain a greater degree of confidence in their abilities and a broader knowledge base in the magickal and priestly arts. We also offer a full four year study program for children from age four to thirteen. These lessons teach our coveners’ children the fundamentals of Wiccan belief and they stress the importance of civic engagement and interfaith dialogue. We believe our children are our future and we wish to raise children who accept the validity of all religious traditions and see all of humanity as their brothers and sisters. At the end of the four year training program, the children of our coveners are accepted for dedication in the coven dependent on their maturity and the decision of the High Priestess and each child’s parents.

Our coven is strongly influenced both by the yogic and Hindu Goddess traditions of India and the shamanic traditions of North America and the British Isles. Meditation, introspection, and bhakti (devotion to Deity) are some of the main ways by which our coven strengthens our connections to the Gods and ourselves. Like the gurus and rishis of India, we try to tailor our coveners’ spiritual training to best utilize their own natural, spiritual inclinations. For some, this may include active meditations through martial arts or hatha yoga; others may be more drawn to the path of service to the Gods, and their meditations may take on the form of volunteer or charitable work. Some students may wish to focus their devotions to Norse pantheon; others may be drawn to the Welsh pantheon. Each student will work with the high priestess of the coven and his or her mentor to develop a study plan that best suits his or her individual needs. Our greatest desire is that our coveners and our children will be able to realize their highest spiritual potentials and develop meaningful, fulfilling relationships with the Divine however they envision Him/Her/Them.

Attendance at coven esbats, sabbats and events is mandatory; we do recognize that life events sometimes intrude and make attendance impossible, but we also feel that attendance is necessary to develop both the group mind as well as to facilitate the active learning inherent in the mentor/mentee relationships that are encouraged. We welcome all people who find their personal values in accord with our coven’s values to meet with us to see if the Coven of the Wolves is a good fit for all involved. We do not turn anyone aside on the basis of gender or sexual orientation; however, due to our coven focus on family and children, we do choose to dedicate only those individuals who we feel share our coven vision, and who will welcome children into the circle and honor the values and traditions we are instilling in our children.
